About Me

I am Jamie Parker, and my journey with the violin began at the tender age of four. Inspired by my older brother and cousins, I eagerly embraced the instrument and initiated formal lessons with a renowned local Geelong 'fiddle' player at the age of five. Under the nurturing guidance of my mother and with dedicated practice, I soon honed the basic techniques of playing the violin.

My early passion turned into an unyielding ambition to match my brother's proficiency, and by the age of 11, I had pledged my lifelong commitment to mastering the violin. Supported by my parents and my violin teacher, I began to make my mark in the Victorian music scene, earning accolades in numerous competitions. The pinnacle of my early achievements was securing the first prize in the regional Australian Youth Classical Music Competition.

Throughout my high school years, I immersed myself in various school string ensembles, eventually attaining the concertmaster position. My involvement extended to the Geelong Summer Music Camps and leading my school's string quartet during my VCE studies. I was honoured when my composition was chosen to be performed by a professional string quartet at the annual VCE Music Styles and Composition Victorian concert.

At 16, I embarked on my teaching journey, and by 17, I was imparting violin skills at a local Geelong music school, A&B Music. My music journey then took me to the Melbourne Conservatory of Music where I pursued a Bachelor of Music under the tutelage of esteemed international violinist, Dr Curt Thompson. This experience refined my abilities as a violinist, and ensemble musician.

Throughout my educational journey, I continued teaching violin across various ages and institutions in Melbourne and Geelong, including Christian College Geelong, Geelong Grammar School, Geelong College, and Parkville Music School.

Since 2016, I have been an integral part of the Geelong Symphony Orchestra, where I currently hold the position of deputy concertmaster. I recently founded the Geelong Chamber Orchestra and the Geelong String Quartet, creating spaces to celebrate and perform music for small ensembles in Geelong. My ultimate goal is to nurture the growth of the classical music community, fostering youth string ensembles and platforms for advancing string musicians
